Following the appointment of a caretaker government in the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr Kalin Hristov took office as Minister of Finance on 13 March 2013. Mr Hristov also becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Bulgaria.
Before his appointment, Mr Hristov was a member of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) and a Deputy Governor in charge of the Issue Department since October 2009. From February 2002 to October 2003 he served as an adviser to the Deputy Governor of the BNB in charge of the Issue Department and then as an adviser to the Governor until October 2009.
From 1997 until 2000 he worked as Assistant Professor in the Economics Department of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) in Sofia and from 2001 to 2004 as Chief Assistant Professor in the Finance Department of the same university.
Since 2005 he was a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the European Central Bank.
He is chairman of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian Macroeconomics Association and a member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Market Economy.
Mr Hristov, born in Pleven in 1971, holds a master in macroeconomics from UNWE.
