The European Investment Bank Group provided €254 million in Slovenia during 2020 in loans, equity and guarantees in Slovenia, an increase at the Group level of €4 million compared to the previous year. The two parts of the EIB Group, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), invested €221 million and €33 million respectively.
The EIB will invest €100 million in Telekom Slovenije and finance the extension of its Gigabit-speed-capable broadband network in Slovenia. The extended fibre optic network will enhance the quality of life and improve how business is done in the country while strengthening Slovenia’s resilience to natural disasters, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The EIB signed a EUR 31 million loan with Elektro Maribor, electricity distributor from Slovenia`s second largest city of Maribor; the loan will go towards maintenance or improvements in the reliability and in quality standards of electricity supply. The EIB loan supports Elektro Maribor`s EUR 81,2 million investment in reconstruction and development of its electricity distribution network in order to minimise power blackouts and blackout-related damage to property and environment.
