The geopolitical and domestic uncertainty has exerted downward pressure on investment activity in Bulgaria, but companies remain cautiously optimistic about their business prospects, expanding investments in innovation and benefitting from policy support, grants and favourable bank financing, new country results from the 2025 EIB Group Investment Survey (EIBIS) show.

Aurubis AG, a leading global provider of non-ferrous metals and one of the largest copper recyclers worldwide, formally signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a € 200 million investment loan today. The five-year loan will support investment in two strategic projects at Aurubis: expanding copper refining at its Bulgarian site and scaling up metal recycling and environmental protection at its Hamburg plant.

The Bulgarian city of Burgas will develop a state-of-the-art scientific campus and seek to attract Bulgarian and international researchers and students with guidance from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The new campus is due to open its doors in 2027 and serve four universities in Burgas, Bulgaria’s fourth-largest city and a major industrial and tourist hub on the Back Sea.
