    The European Investment Bank in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Association of Romanian Water Utilities (ARA) will hold in Bucharest (RO) on 23 November 2006 a conference on financing for the water sector addressing public and private stakeholders from Romania and beyond.

    Who should attend?

    The one-day conference is designed to bring together representatives from the government, local authorities, scientists, experts, managers and stakeholders from the water sector and will promote awareness and understanding of the EIB's financing.

    What will participants learn?

    The aim of this forum is to present the most recent developments in the water and sanitation sector in Romania associated with trends and developments in other European countries demonstrating and promoting good practice.

    About the event

    The EIB will gather at this conference Romanian and international experts from the water sector, senior staff from the EIB as well as local and regional government officials to discuss innovative ways of funding municipal and regional projects in the water sector.

    Topics to be discussed include:

    • Public Private Partnerships and other models of project funding;
    • pricing and tariffs;
    • regionalisation of service provision;
    • successful project preparation and availability of technical expertise.

    About the speakers

    Confirmed speakers include Sulfina Barbu, Minister of Environment and Water Management; Razvan Murgeanu, Deputy Mayor of Bucharest; Vasile Ciomos, President of ARA as well as international experts from Poland, Portugal, Cyprus and Finland. Speeches and presentations will be followed by a series of technical workshops. The seminar will be opened by Thomas Hackett, Director General of the European Investment Bank.

    Conference languages will be Romanian and English with simultaneous interpretation available throughout the conference.
