Case Description

Complaint
The complaint concerned the nationality eligibility criteria when applying for an internship position at the Bank, notably the question whether candidates from the Republic of North Macedonia, a country for which formal approval to begin accession talks has been granted, are eligible to apply.
EIB-CM Action
The EIB-CM analysed the relevant internal rules and asked about practice from Personnel department and received the relevant responses.
Conclusion
The EIB-CM concluded that the Bank has systematically applied its internal rules by granting the possibility to apply for candidates from countries with which the accession negotiations have actually started. While the members of the European Council endorsed the decision by the ministers of European affairs to open accession negotiations with the Republic of North Macedonia, the negotiations have actually not yet started.
