Summary sheet
The project concerns investment in the Mohammédia power plant located on the coast 25 km north of Casablanca, which was built in the early 1980s by Ansaldo on the basis of an EDF design. The plant has an installed capacity of 600 MW (15% of the country’s electricity) generated by four 150 MW steam turbines (two coal-fired and two heavy-fuel-oil-fired).
The new schemes aim to reduce the plant’s environmental impact and improve its performance. They will serve to eliminate operational inefficiencies through modification of the boiler design and improvement of coal pulverisation capacity.
The investments concerning the coal-fired turbines include the requisite equipment to reduce air pollution, recover and process fly and heavy ash, reduce the consumption of regeneration products and separate and treat wastewater.
The different components of the project have been put out to tender in separate lots in accordance with the Bank’s rules.
