The project will reduce the broadband gap within Italy by extending the coverage to unserved areas or improving the service quality.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

Investments in fixed telecommunications infrastructures do not fall under Annex I or II of Directive 85/337/EEC as amended by Directives 97/11/EEC and 2003/35/EEC. Project specific environmental details will be assessed during appraisal, including the possible impacts on protected flora and fauna (Habitats 92/43/EEC and Birds 79/409/EEC).

According to utility directive 2004/17/EC, the telecommunications sector is exempt from public procurement procedures due to its competitive nature. Hence the private promoter might opt for other suitable procedures, which are in the interest of the project. The effectiveness of this procedure will be assessed during appraisal.
