Limerick City and County Council has a difficult job upgrading its social housing. It oversees more than 5 500 social housing units, many of which were built decades ago. The European Investment Bank worked with the municipality, Dublin City Council and Cooperative Housing Ireland to offer crucial advisory support. The EIB Advisory team, with its deep understanding of infrastructure financing and sustainable development, worked with external advisors to develop plans to address the challenges.

The challenge of finding affordable housing is growing across Europe. Latvia has one of the smallest supplies of affordable housing in Europe. The European Investment Bank is helping Latvia’s real estate company, known as VNI, address the housing crisis. With funding from the InvestEU Advisory Hub, the Bank’s advisory experts are helping Latvia design a comprehensive plan to develop affordable housing.

Bologna is focusing on inclusive urban planning, specifically in public services and infrastructure. The city wants to support the diverse needs of everyone. With the assistance of the Bank, the city is taking several steps to ensure that public services and infrastructure address the specific needs of women and other underrepresented groups, such as the elderly, those of different abilities and the LGBTQI+ community. Funded by the European Investment Advisory Hub, the technical assistance helped to analyse the gender gaps and needs, building on the experience from other European cities as well as the analysis of existing data.

The University Hospital 12 de Octobre in Madrid is a cornerstone of the Spanish healthcare system. EIB Advisory experts through JASPERS supported the construction of new mother and child hospital facilities, evaluating the project's compliance with regulations, risk assessment, economic viability and financing aspects, as well as climate considerations. This helped the project meet the standards required by the European Union funds. And it helped demonstrate the project’s potential to help society, particularly in reducing the mortality rate.
