Financed by the InvestEU Advisory Hub, the Green Gateway is an EIB Advisory initiative that helps financial institutions assess the eligibility and impact of green projects. It offers tools like the Green Eligibility Checker and the EIF Sustainability Guarantee Tool, along with a green eligibility helpdesk, web seminars and other assistance.

European cities can substantially contribute to the Green Deal target of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 and they can offer a better quality of life through cleaner air, safer transport and less congestion and noise. The Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities initiative is one of five new European Union “missions” created to solve our biggest challenges. Under the InvestEU Advisory Hub, EIB Advisory is helping cities that received this label identify climate projects from their city investment plans.

Marcegaglia Ravenna, located in the Ravenna-Ferrera industrial hub has designed a carbon capture project to reduce emissions at one of the main steel plants in Italy and Southern Europe. EIB Advisory provided a range of technical and financial services for the AdriatiCO2 project, including a review of the benchmarks in the market, as well as the financing plan and business model to address financial risks. “We conducted a thorough review of the benchmarks in the market, as well as the financing plan and business model to address financial risks,” says Juliet Dow-Madu, the head of unit for Innovation Fund operations at the European Investment Bank.

As the world shifts towards cleaner energy sources, sustainable liquid fuels (SLFs) are emerging as a promising solution to decarbonise the transport sector. The Irish Department of Transport has decided to plan an extensive modernisation of the rail network. To help make the plan possible and assist with funding, Ireland asked EIB Advisory to enlist a team of international experts in sustainable transport. This advisory project financed by the InvestEU Advisory Hub enabled the Department of Transport to take advantage of the European Investment Bank’s extensive experience in sustainable projects.

The Greening Financial Systems Technical Assistance Programme (GFS Programme) was set up in 2021 by the European Investment Bank and Germany to help central banks and financial institutions focus on sustainability. The aim is to help financial systems adapt to the rising risks related to climate change and increase green finance.
