Description

El Fondo de Inversión ACP es un instrumento financiero fundamental del Acuerdo de Asociación ACP-UE que fue firmado en Cotonú el 23 de junio de 2000 y entró en vigor oficialmente el 2 de junio de 2003. A este respecto, el Acuerdo de Cotonú estipula: «El Fondo de Inversión actuará en todos los sectores económicos
y apoyará las inversiones del sector privado y de entidades del sector público con gestión comercial, entre otras la infraestructura económica y tecnológica productiva, esencial para el sector privado.

El Fondo de Inversión PTU fue creado en virtud de la Decisión el Consejo de 27 de noviembre de 2001 relativa a la asociación e los Países y Territorios de Ultramar (PTU) con la Comunidad uropea, siendo su finalidad la de promover empresas comercialmente viables, principalmente del sector privado pero también las del sector público conducentes al desarrollo del sector privado, en los 20 PTU del Caribe, del Pacífico y de las regiones Norte y Sur del Océano Atlántico que se hallan acogidos a la ayuda financiera de la Comunidad Europea.

2004 ha sido el primer año completo de actividad del FI, habiéndose firmado dieciséis proyectos
por un importe total de 337 millones de EUR.

A fines de 2004 la cartera de operaciones del FI comprendía 24 proyectos, habiéndose firmado
contratos por un total de 477 millones de EUR que representa el 23 % de la dotación
de capital del FI.
