Description
Implementation of manufacturing capacity for the production of polycrystalline silicon wafers as a pre-product for use in photovoltaic cells. It concerns the expansion of an existing plant and the implementation of a new one, both located in Freiberg, Saxony.
Objectives
The project will contribute to the development of the renewable energy in the EU and indirectly to the EU’s policy objectives on climate change.

Environmental aspects
The project has no significant environmental impact. Compliance with EU Directive 97/11/EC, amending 85/337/EEC, will be verified during appraisal and the status of any environmental studies and public consultations will be reviewed.
Procurement
The promoter is a private company operating in a competitive manufacturing sector not covered by EU Directives on procurement. The promoter has and will carry out competitive enquiries with competent suppliers.
