    The project concerns the construction of a gas fired combined cycle co-generation unit – Rya Kraftvärmeverk (Rya CHP plant), a new biomass plant, refurbishment of another biomass plant and ancillary investments in associated district heating co-generation and distribution networks.

    Objectives

    Investments focus on catering for growing demand by means that include a more rational use of energy under environmentally sound conditions. This has been in particular triggered by technical progress and strengthened environmental requirements.

    Environmental aspects

    The project’s main component falls under Annex II of EU directive 97/11/EC. An environmental impact study has been presented to the Swedish Authorities and all necessary approvals are foreseen by end-June 2003. The cogeneration of heat and electricity will contribute to an improvement in the overall energy efficiency of the Swedish energy system.

    Procurement procedures applied will be in compliance with EU Directives and national legislation.
