Description
Objectives

The project consists of the modernisation of two railway sections located on Corridor IV south of Prague. The first scheme is a 24 km long double track electrified line from Benesov u Prahy to Strancice. The second scheme is a 12 km long single track electrified line from Doubi to Tabor.

The project corresponds to an optimisation of capacity and performance of the existing infrastructure both for passengers and freight traffic. It also encompasses an improvement of network safety and reliability. The project raises the infrastructure level to EU standards and is a step towards the gradual achievement of interoperability of networks.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

The project falls under Annex II of Directive 97/11/EC as amended by Directive 2003/35/EC and an EIA has been carried out. All procedural rules, transposed into Law of the Czech Republic (Act 100/2001 Coll.), have been respected. The project crosses two NATURA 2000 sites and the competent authority has confirmed that the project has no significant impacts on the sites.

EU procurement directives (2004/17/EC, 2004/18/EC) have been transposed into Czech legislation by the Act No. 137/2006 Coll.

The contract notices for the international open tender have been published in the Official Journal of the European Communities (OJEC). The main contracts have been published in the OJEC under the reference number 2006/S 113 0120888 on 16/06/2006 for scheme 1 and S 235 0251095 on 9/12/2006 for scheme 2.
