Objectives

The project consists of extending the Mauritius Container Terminal e.g. paving of container stacking area and purchase of container handling equipment including 2 ship-to-shore, post-panamax, rail-mounted gantry cranes.

To provide an increase in capacity to cater for increased traffic notably from trans-shipment.

Procurement

A comprehensive EIA and Risk Analysis Study was carried out in 1994 for the whole container terminal. Noise and visual disturbance are not expected to have an impact under the present development phase of MCT.
