The European Investment Bank (EIB Global) has appointed Damien Sorrell as its new Head of the Regional Hub for the Western Balkans. He succeeds Alessandro Bragonzi, who will continue his career at the Bank’s headquarters. Through this new leadership, and alongside its partners, the Bank will remain committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy, fostering alignment with EU standards and driving economic growth in the Western Balkans.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing over €60 million in EU guarantee-backed loans to strengthen critical infrastructure in Ukraine, as part of its Ukraine Solidarity Urgent Response package, developed in close cooperation with the European Commission. This support includes the reconstruction of a key segment of the M01 highway and the renewal of urban public transport in the cities of Kyiv, Odesa and Sumy. This EIB investment underscores the unwavering commitment of the European Union to Ukraine’s recovery, delivering vital support for infrastructure resilience and efficiency amid ongoing challenges.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) announced significant new commitments to drive sustainable development and economic inclusion across Africa at the 2024 Africa Investment Forum (AIF) held in Rabat, Morocco from 4 to 6 December. With €21 billion invested over the past five years, including €8.9 billion in private sector financing, the EIB is reaffirming its position as a trusted, long-term partner for the continent.
