Konstantin Andreopoulos has been appointed as Chief Compliance Officer of the EIB Group.

In order to enhance the EIB Group's compliance objectives and in conformity with the Basel guidelines, in November 2004 the EIB's Management Committee decided to regroup existing services into a separate entity to assist the EIB Group in the promotion of sound supervisory standards. Mr Andreopoulos will give opinions, issue rulings and recommendations on intended actions everytime that compliance issues arise and will rule, where necessary, on the compliance of the individuals' actions with the EIB Group's rules and code of conduct.

Mr Andreopoulos born in Athens, Greece on October 26, 1943, is a lawyer member of the Bar in Athens and New York and a graduate of the Universities of Athens, Freiburg-im-Breisgau and Yale. Mr Andreopoulos joined the Bank's Legal Directorate in 1981 and was promoted to Head of Division in 1982. In 1984 he was appointed head of the newly opened EIB's Athens Office. From 1988 to the end of 1994 he returned to Luxembourg as Head of the Division for Lending Operations in Greece and Finland before moving back to the Legal Affairs Directorate as Director (1995) and Deputy General Counsel (1998). In his capacity as Deputy General Counsel, Mr Konstantin Andreopoulos was responsible for legal aspects relating to all of EIB's lending operations both within and outside the EU. Prior to his new appointment, Mr Andreopoulos was EIB representative on the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.

Andreas Verykios has been appointed as Deputy Director General for lending operations in Europe of the European Investment Bank, the EU's long-term financing institution.

EIB's Management Committee views the appointment of Mr Verykios as a further reinforcement of the EIB's lending team in Europe, where financing in 2004 exceeded EUR 40 billion. Mr Verykios has a broad lending experience in a number of banking and geographical areas, as well as exposure to strategic issues, while Director of the Bank Representative Office in Brussels and Director of Human Resources.

Born in Athens, Greece on August 17, 1945, Mr Verykios is a graduate in economics of the University of Geneva and holds a MBA from the INSEAD Business School (Fontainebleau, France). Mr Verykios joined the Bank's Lending Operations Directorate in 1981 after a private-sector career in the City Of London, United Kingdom and Athens, Greece. Mr Verykios was promoted to Head of Division in EIB's Lending Directorate for Operations within the European Union in 1987, heading successively the divisions for new lending operations in the Benelux Countries, for loans monitoring in the UK, Ireland and Portugal and for new lending operations in the UK. In 1996 he was appointed Director of the Bank Representative Office in Brussels, and in 2000 Director of EIB's Human Resources Department.
