The programme is a Major Project under the Cohesion Fund Framework Loan II - Hungary- It comprises investments in the waste management system in the project area to increase selective collection and recycling, to divert biodegradable waste from landfills, and to improve waste treatment and disposal and thereby reach compliance with relevant targets presented in national legislation and EU guidelines.
Ziele
Contributing to improved waste management in the region the Programme supports EU environmental objectives, particularly those prescribed in the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC), the Landfill Directive (1999/31/EC), and the Packaging Directive (1994/62/EC).

Umweltaspekte
The project aims at establishing an integrated solid waste management system in three counties in the Trans-danubian region in Hungary with a total population of 426 000. The project comprises equipment for separate collection and home-composting, and waste treatment and disposal facilities that will contribute to increase the share of waste that is recycled, enable beneficial use of energy rich fractions in the waste, and reduce the amount of waste that is disposed on landfills.
Auftragsvergabe
The promoter is a public entity and therefore subject to EU procurement rules and procedures regarding public works, supply and service contracts. The Bank will verify compliance with this aspect during appraisal.
