High-impact global investment

The railway was Albania’s main mode of transport for most of the 20th century. It was affordable, reliable and accessible for people and freight. Albania’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has made the railway a national priority. The Albanian railway company HSH has been asked to help turn things around with an ambitious programme to rebuild and modernise the railways. EIB Advisory experts through JASPERS drew up an action plan to help HSH employees develop the right skills for rail expansion and proposed a new working environment to empower employees and attract top talent. 

Moldova is working to boost its economy and strengthen transport connections with Member States, especially Romania. A key part of this vision is the modernisation of the railway, particularly the main line linking Moldova to Romania, Hungary and other parts of Europe. EIB Advisory experts and consultants are assessing the current railway’s tracks, switches, road crossings and bridges. They are also analysing the train stations’ layouts, equipment and functionalities to improve services to passengers and neighbouring communities.
