    Description

    The project consists of the rehabilitation and upgrade of the existing railway infrastructure between Budapest-Kelenföld and Székesfehérvár and addition of a second track between Budapest-Kelenföld and Tárnok.

    Objectifs

    The project aims at (i) reduction of travel time for passenger and freight traffic, (ii) increase of safety for rail passengers and pedestrians by building underpasses, (iii) increased safety for road traffic by building underpasses and improving level crossings, (iv) implementation of interoperability requirements for freight traffic by increasing axle load to 22.5 tons and track length at stations to 750 m, (v) increase of capacity and operational reliability by constructing a second track, (vi) reduction of noise by installing noise barriers, and (vii) improving intermodality with road vehicles and buses.

    Aspects environnementaux

    The project falls under Annex II of the EIA Directive and was screened out by the Competent Authorities on the basis of the preliminary environmental impact study. The project passes next to two Natura 2000 sites but the Competent Authority confirmed that the project will have no significant impact on them. Compliance with environmental legislations will be verified during appraisal.

    Passation des marchés

    The project implementation is managed by the NIF Zrt. (National Infrastructure Developing Company), a public company obliged to comply with the European and National Public Procurement legislation. The procurement process will be verified during appraisal.
