At the EIB`s Berlin office, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) have celebrated almost 30 years of their partnership. Both public development banks have been cooperating in funding regional projects in the German State of Brandenburg that is surrounding Berlin. Since 1995, 47 financial contracts have been signed with an overall volume of €3.21 billion.

In line with the Public Policy Goals of both institutions, the cooperation has concerned the financing of:

  • Physical capital: regional and municipal public infrastructure in the energy, water, transport and digital sectors
  • Human Capital: social infrastructure, like social housing, schools and hospitals, accommodations for migrants
  • Natural Capital: environmental projects, especially in the lignite-area Lausitz
  • Jobs and Employment: through the funding of SMEs and Midcaps

The EIB and ILB intend to keep a solid level of cooperation, to support the State of Brandenburg in view of the challenges of the energy, climate, demographic and digital transitions. The two institutions remain open to explore new forms of cooperation beyond intermediated financing.
