Antonello Pugliese has been appointed the new Director of the European Investment Bank (EIB)'s Department for Lending Operations in Italy and Malta, based in Rome. He replaces Thomas Hackett who is returning to Luxembourg to head the Baltic Sea Department.

Antonello Pugliese, a qualified economist, is going to Italy with previous experience of EIB operations in Spain, Greece and the Nordic Countries. For the past three years, he has been Director of the EIB's Department for Lending Operations in the Mediterranean and Balkans. He launched and directed the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP), the Bank's special window for financial assistance to the EU's Mediterranean Partnership Countries.
