The President of Uganda Yoweri K. Museveni visited the European Investment Bank today in Luxembourg for discussion on EIB operations in his country. Mr. Museveni accompanied by senior members of his Government and by the Ugandan Ambassador to the Benelux and the EU, H.E. Kakima Ntambi, was greeted by EIB's President Sir Brian Unwin and vice-president Claes de Neergaard.

Mr. Museveni and Sir Brian Unwin discussed the Bank's activities in Uganda, in particular those in the mining sector and the support given to small and medium sized enterprises. Since the beginning of operations in 1992, under the Lomé IV Agreement, the EIB has approved ECU 62.5 million for projects in Uganda.

Amongst sectors examined for future co-operation were power, telecommunications and transport, including the development of projects of regional importance with Kenya and Tanzania..
