Following recent parliamentary elections in Romania, Mr Viorel ŞTEFAN was appointed Minister of Public Finance. He also becomes EIB Governor, succeeding Ms DRAGU.
Pior to his appointment as Minister of Public Finance, Mr ŞTEFAN was a Member of the Romanian Parliament since 2008. During that period, he was also Chairman of the Budget, Finance and Banks Committee of the Parliament.
Mr ŞTEFAN served as Senator in the Romanian Parliament from 1996 to 2008.
From 1980 to 2002, he held various positions in the Romanian Fluvial Navigation Company NAVROM SA Galati, including as General Director and President.
Mr ŞTEFAN was born in 1954. He graduated from the Faculty of Economic Science at ‘All. I. Cuza’ University in Iasi and holds a PhD in Economics from ‘Dunarea de Jos’ University in Galati.
