Tina Uebel is a prize-winning German novelist and travel writer who has journeyed to some of the most inhospitable places in the world. Her most recent book took her on the trail of British explorer Ernest Shackleton, whose crew battled across the South Atlantic in small boats and lived to tell the tale a century ago. So, on her visit to the desert at Ouarzazate, Tina’s thoughts turned to humanity’s fight to survive. Those thoughts turn out to be by turns grim and filled with love, but always compelling and original.
