Description
The project comprises 41km of dual carriage way and associated link roads connecting a Priority TEN route (the M8) with a TEN route (the M7) enabling traffic to pass more rapidly between Dublin and Cork and Dublin and Limerick and is located in an objective 1 region in the West of Ireland.
Objectifs
The project will improve journey times on part of the Prioirity TEN-T road network in Ireland. The project will contribute to the regional development of an ongoing non-transitional objective 1 region of Ireland, relieve congestion from Portlaoise, reduce accident rates and provide associated environmental and health benefits for local residents.

Aspects environnementaux
The project falls under Annex I of the EU Directive 97/11/EC on environmental impact assessment and has been the subject of an EIA, including public consultation. A copy of the EIA can be obtained from the Project website.
Passation des marchés
The project was advertised in OJEU during September 2005 in accordance Directive 93/37/EEC. The ITN (invitation to negotiate) was issued to short-listed bidders in March 2006. The Concession contract is expected to be signed by July 2007.
