Bálint Balassa joined the EIB Group on 1 October 2025 as its first ombudsperson, an independent role designed to support staff in resolving workplace issues confidentially and constructively. Prior to this appointment, he spent 16 years at the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and served as ombudsman for the World Health Organization South-East Asia, based in New Delhi.
Balassa holds an MA in Education (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest) and an MA in Psychology (University of Debrecen, Hungary). With extensive experience in conflict resolution, mediation and instructional design, he has worked across diverse cultural and institutional settings, helping individuals and teams navigate workplace challenges.
He is a Certified Mediator (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) and a Certified Organisational Ombudsman Practitioner (International Ombuds Association).
