Beschreibung
The project concerns the development, construction and management of a 240MW / 480MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Cernay-lès-Reims, Marne, France.
Ziele
The aim is to realise a utility scale BESS to provide additional flexibility resources and system services (frequency containment and restauration, balancing, and additional capacity for adequacy needs) to the French and European power systems. The project will enable the integration of renewables and will contribute to secure the system supply.

Umweltaspekte
The project includes components that may fall under Annex II of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2011/92/EU as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU, which requires the competent national authority to determine the need for an EIA. The impacts that can be typically expected relate to visual impact, vegetation clearance, electromagnetic fields, noise nuisance, and disturbances during construction, as well as the possible impacts on protected fauna and flora (Habitats 92/43/EC and Birds 2009/147/EC). No major environmental or social impacts are expected for the envisaged project (including batteries systems and associated infrastructures).
Auftragsvergabe
The promoter has been preliminarily assessed by the EIB as being a private company not being subject to EU rules on public procurement or concessions. In any case, the promoter has to ensure that the project will be implemented in accordance with the EIB's Guide to Procurement.
