The project consists of the design, supply, installation, testing, training, commissioning and operation of a wind farm at Lamberts East, with a total installed capacity of 9.4 MWe Reinforcement of access roads is also included and the farm will be connected to the power grid via a 24 kV overhead line.
The purpose of the project is to replace expensive fossil fuel and to reduce CO2 emissions by building and operating the first wind farm in Barbados. The project will be located at Lamberts East, about 1.5 km from the northeast coast of Barbados facing the Atlantic Ocean.
The promoter is currently undertaking an environmental impact study including a public consultation process. An EIA for the medium voltage power line is not required, neither by the European EIA directive, nor by the national environmental authorities.
The promoter will comply with the Bank’s procurement guidelines when tendering the turnkey contract proposed for part-financing by the Bank. This implies open or restricted tendering published in the Official Journal. The power line connection will be constructed by the promoter’s own work force due to its limited size.
