BRATISLAVA SUSTAINABLE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The project will finance the rehabilitation and energy efficiency improvements of public buildings (secondary schools, social services, health care), reconstruction of regional transport infrastructure (roads and bridges) and upgrading of urban greenery and parks in the Bratislava region.

The investments supported by EIB contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing quality of life in Bratislava region by improving energy efficiency performance of public buildings and modernising public infrastructure in education, health care, regional transport and green areas.

The Project supports selected multi-sector investments of the Bratislava Region's Economic and Social Development Programme 2021-2027, which defines the strategic priorities for the Region's smart and sustainable growth.

Delivered through a Framework Loan, the EIB's support will cover a broad range of investments including the rehabilitation of transport infrastructure (roads and bridges), as well as improvements of education, social and health care facilities, including energy efficiency renovations.

The financing provided by the EIB will help the Region address its investment gap and is expected to generate positive direct and indirect benefits, such as better public services, better quality of enabling services for economic activities, as well as improvements of the urban and regional environment and social inclusion. The upgraded infrastructure will increase the attractiveness of urban areas as business locations, living spaces and tourist destinations and it is expected to have a positive effect on growth and job creation.

The energy efficiency investments will directly result in positive environmental impact (reduction of greenhouse gas emissions) and a reduction of the Region's operating costs.

The EIB Framework Loan is particularly advantageous for the Region, offering long term-flexible financing complemented by significant availability and grace periods, as well as disbursement terms tailored to the implementation timeline and the specific challenges of public infrastructure projects.

Ultimately, the Project is expected to improve the quality of life of all residents while reducing inequalities between people and places.

The EIB allocates its funds exclusively to eligible projects that are environmentally sustainable. All projects shall comply with EU environmental legislation as well as with the principles and standards of the EIB Group Environmental and Social Policy. The project will contribute to climate action and environmental sustainability objectives. Where and if applicable, and based on a risk-based approach as defined in the EIB Group environmental and social policy, the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive (EIA) 2011/92/EU as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU, Birds Directive2009/147/EC, Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and EU Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings will be checked during appraisal.

The promoter shall ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been or will be tendered in accordance with the applicable EU procurement legislation: Directive 2014/24/EU as well as Directive 89/665/EEC as interpreted by the Court of Justice of the EU, with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where required.
