The project comprises the construction of two new private acute hospitals (Müllheim and Schkeuditz) and the upgrading / refurbishing of additional four facilities, including medical equipment and information technology.
The project objective is to achieve economic solutions allowing cost savings in hospital operations by removing unfavourable building structures and configurations, with the result of improving the qualitative medical care in the hospitals' catchment area.
Healthcare facilities do usually not generate significant environmental impact, however contaminated waste will be adequately treated. Although Directive 97/11/EC does not specifically mention hospitals, it could be relevant in case the new or rehabilitated hospital buildings were located in urban areas. It is unlikely that an EIA will be required but this will be verified during appraisal.
Procurement procedures applied by the promoter are in compliance with Council Directives applicable to public authorities procurement and national legislation.
