The project supports Côte d'Ivoire's transition from a raw cashew exporter to a competitive agro-industrial value chain through three integrated components: (i) upstream support to sustainable and traceable production systems and producer communities; (ii) downstream investments in logistics, storage and processing to strengthen industrial competitiveness; (iii) institutional strengthening and value chain governance. It targets key production regions to enhance resilience, foster inclusive growth, and improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers.
The aim is to support the cashew value chain in Côte d'Ivoire, aligning with national and international objective and standards for local value creation, green industrialization, and climate resilience. The project uses an integrated approach, building on previous investments, combining sustainable production, agro-industrial transformation, rural infrastructure, and improved sector governance. Its overall goal is to strengthen the sustainability, the productivity and local processing capacity of the cashew sector, thereby benefiting also the local private sector operators.
The project is expected to offer significant environmental benefits by promoting sustainable agricultural practices that reduce deforestation and protect biodiversity. In addition, the integration of circular economy principles will contribute to conserving natural habitats, decrease waste, and improve resource efficiency. In accordance with applicable national environmental legislation and EU environmental and social principles, standards, and practices, an Environmental and Social Management Framework including resettlement framework and stakeholder engagement plan will be established. The project will have significant environmental, climate and/or social impacts and shall be subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and/or Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) process, in line with EIB's Environmental & Social Standards (paragraph 7).
The promoter shall ensure that implementation of the project is done in accordance with the EIB's Guide to Procurement. In particular, calls for international tenders will be published in the Official Journal of the EU and/or on the EIB's website in accordance with the EIB's Guide to Procurement.
