The project comprises renovation and construction of electricity transmission and distribution facilities, located throughout Estonia, undertaken by the promoter over a three-year period. Project items principally include substations, overhead lines and underground cables.
The objectives of the project are to reduce grid losses, decrease maintenance cost, improve system reliability and meet increasing demand.
None of the schemes fall under Annex I of Directive EC/97/11, and two 110 kV lines pertain to Annex II, but no EIA is required for such installations according to the above-mentioned national EIA Act. Overall, the impact of the project is expected to be limited and acceptable.
