The EIB, Bank of Lithuania, Bank of Estonia and Bank of Latvia are hosting a joint webinar entitled “Investment in the Baltics: From pandemic to war” to review key economic and investment trends across the entire Baltic region.
The war in Ukraine is a second shock, coming hot on the heels of the pandemic. The Baltic region weathered the pandemic well, with a fairly swift economic recovery. Nonetheless, the impact on firms was sizable; it impacted sales and revenue, which in turn affected their investment strategies.
During the event we will discuss the effectiveness of the policy response to date and the key structural investment challenges. We will also examine the economic impact of the war to date and how it is likely to affect the decisions of firms and policymakers.
The conference will bring together a group of policymakers and economists as well as representatives from financial institutions and the business community.
After the opening remarks, the results of the EIB Investment surveys for the Baltic countries will be presented, including some remarks on the impact of the war in Ukraine. This will be followed by a panel discussion with the governors of all three Baltic central banks.
The event will finish with a panel of external speakers, focusing on the war, the policy response to the pandemic and the investment priorities in the period ahead.
