The aim of the project is to improve environmental conditions for operation of seven drinking water treatment plants in the North (coastal area) and Centre of Morocco, including, in particular, the Bou Regreg complex which serves the cities of Rabat and Casablanca.
The investment programme concerns the entire drinking water treatment cycle: rehabilitation of water conduits, modernisation of analytical laboratories, recycling of wash water, sludge treatment and disposal, cleaning of filters, automation and telemanagement, and introduction of electrochlorination equipment aimed at limiting the use of chlorine.
The project is expected to have a significant impact on the environment – apart from improving the quality of the water produced for consumers, it will lead to controlled use of chlorinated products and to a reduction or even the elimination of the discharge of wash water and suspended matter (sludge) in rivers in the vicinity.
The tender files for the project's largest components will be covered by international competitive bidding with publication in the OJEC.
