Public-Private Partnership: Prospects in the Mediterranean Region

The workshop entitled “Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Prospects in the Mediterranean Region” was held at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Conference Centre in Paris on 10th - 11th  February 2011.

The opening remarks were provided by Richard Boucher, Deputy Secretary General of OECD, Lino Cardarelli, Senior Deputy Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean, and EIB Vice-President Philippe de Fontaine Vive. Nick Jennett, Head of the European PPP Expertise Centre (EPEC), gave the concluding remarks. During the workshop, advertised as the “launch of an ambitious PPP programme in the FEMIP region by the EIB”, the initial conclusions of the PPP study were presented. 

Participants, composed of more than 75 experts from the FEMIP region, South Africa and the EU, focused on three key questions: What is the state of play for PPP’s in the Mediterranean region, including private sector appetite? What are the key conditions for a successful PPP environment? And how to create and deliver a pipeline of infrastructure projects?
