Following the agreement on the new Government, Mr Steven Vanackere has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Sustainable Development since December 2011. He has also become EIB Governor for the Kingdom of Belgium, succeeding Mr Didier Reynders.

Before his appointment in the new Government, he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reform since November 2009.

From December 2008 to November 2009, he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Civil Service, Public Enterprises and Institutional Reform.

Mr Vanackere was also Flemish Minister of Welfare, Public Health and the Family from  June 2007 to December 2008 and served as Member of the Flemish Parliament from 2004 to 2007.

Born in 1964 in Wevelgem, Belgium, Mr Vanackere holds a Degree in Political Science and Master’s degrees in Economics and Law from K.U. Leuven.
