On 16 November 2012, the President of the Republic of Finland appointed Mr Jan Vapaavuori as Minister of Economic Affairs, replacing Mr Jyri Häkämies, who resigned. Mr Vapaavuori also becomes EIB Governor for Finland.

Mr Vapaavuori has been a Member of Parliament since 2003.

He was Minister of Housing from April 2007 to June 2011, Minister at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Nordic co-operation) from June 2007 to June 2011 and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office from March 2010 to June 2011.

From 2001 to 2003, he was Managing Director of the company Track & Field Finland Oy.

He was also a Special Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Trade Kimmo Sasi (1999- 2001), to the Minister of Justice Sauli Niinistö (1995) and to the Minister for Foreign Trade Pertti Salolainen (1993-1995). Mr Vapaavuori was born in Helsinki in 1965. He holds a Master of Law.
