Environmental certification obtained for the EIB's new building project
- Date: 03 June 2005
In the context of sustainable development, the EIB would like to obtain environmental certification for its new building. After examining various existing types of certification - HQE (Haute Qualité Environnemental: High Environmental Quality), LEEDS, BREEAM (Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method), GREEN BUILDING, etc. - the BREEAM method was considered to be the most suitable for rating the environmental qualities of the future building.
At the preliminary design phase, the EIB had already had the project assessed using the BREEAM method, which was adapted specifically to take account of local legislation and requirements.
Throughout the project's development, the architectural and technical studies have been adjusted to take account of the BREEAM comments. As a result, the EIB's new building project has been rated as "Very good".
During construction, every effort will be made to comply with all environmental requirements so that the new EIB premises will be the first building in Luxembourg (and mainland Europe) to be classified as "Very good" under the BESPOKE BREEAM method.
