Didier Reynders, Governor for Belgium

Mr Didier Reynders was appointed Belgium's Finance Minister on 12 July 1999. At the same time he became EIB Governor for Belgium.

Prior to his appointment as Minister of Finance, Mr Reynders served as Head of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Institutional Reform between 1987 and 1988. In 1988, he was appointed municipal councillor in Liège, then Vice-President of the MR (Reform Movement) and Member of the Chamber of Representatives in 1992. In 1995, Mr Reynders was elected President of the PRL-FDF Group (Liberal Reform Party) in the Chamber, President of the MR Provincial Federation and Head of the PRL Group on the Municipal Council of the City of Liège. Mr Reynders was President of the MR Liège Arrondissment from 1995 to 2004 and has been President of the MR since 11 October 2004.

Mr Reynders was born on 6 August 1958 in Liège. He holds a degree in law from the University of Liège.

Belgique : des panneaux photovoltaïques sur le toit des écoles - premier bilan de l’ambitieux programme du SeGEC avec la BEI, ELENA et Belfius Banque

Fin septembre 2022, le Secrétariat général de l’enseignement catholique (SeGEC), la Banque européenne d’investissement (BEI), Belfius Banque, et le bureau d’études DUSS lançaient un projet d’envergure visant à équiper les écoles du réseau libre en panneaux photovoltaïques. Un an et demi plus tard, l’ensemble des partenaires ainsi que la société qui a remporté le marché public pour l’installation, en 2023, Reno.energy, tirent un bilan provisoire positif du projet.

Serbia-Bulgaria railway project on Corridor Xc launched

Construction work has begun on the Niš-Dimitrovgrad railway section near the Serbian city of Pirot. The project involves the reconstruction and modernisation of an existing unelectrified single-track railway line from Sićevo to Dimitrovgrad and the construction of the northern rail bypass around the city of Niš, as well as electrification and signalling work on both stretches. As part of the EU Economic and Investment Plan, the overall modernisation of up to 104 km of railway lines will result in shorter journey times and improved safety and regional connectivity, while enabling a gradual shift to more environmentally friendly transportation options.
