On a proposal from the President approved by the Board of Directors at its meeting on 3 May 2006, Mr Detlef Leinberger has been appointed Alternate Expert Member of the Board of Directors to succeed Mr Timothy Stone, who becomes Full Expert taking up the position vacated by Ms Matthäus-Maier. Their terms of office run until the day of the Bank's Annual Meeting in 2008.

Detlef Leinberger was born in Bad Homburg, Germany in 1949.

He graduated in Business Management from the University of Frankfurt/Main. Mr Leiberger is currently a Member of the Board of Managing Directors (Vorstand) of KfW. He started his professional career at KfW as a trainee in 1975 and held the posts of: a) Officer in the General Business Policy Department, b) Officer in the Loans Department, c) Division Chief in the General Business Policy Department, d) Head of the General Business Policy Department for Domestic Operations, e) First Vice President Control Department, and f) Senior Vice President Secretariat of Domestic Credit Affairs, before joining the Board of Managing Directors. In 1986, he also undertook a period of secondment to the German Ministry of Finance.

Mr Leinberg is also a Member of the Board of Deutsche Energie Agentur GmbH, Berlin, and of the EIF.
