As the EU’s long term financing institution, EIB’s operations are driven by EU policies and objectives. Accordingly, climate change and environmental protection form part of the EIB’s lending priorities.

In response to the EU climate change policy designed to implement the Kyoto Protocol, the EIB is launching a number of climate change initiatives specifically aimed at supporting investment projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the development of the emerging carbon market.
