- Water, sewerage - Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities
The operation will co-finance the 2027-2029 investment programme in water supply and wastewater collection and treatment in the City of Klaipeda and Klaipeda region, Lithuania. The investment programme mainly concerns the extension and rehabilitation of water supply and wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure.
The aim is to improve water and wastewater services and reduce pollution to ground and surface water. It will also support Klaipedos Vanduo in adapting to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The project will contribute to ensure compliance with key EU directives in the water sector notably the Drinking Water Directive (2020/2184), the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (2024/3019/EU) and the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), specifically Article 4.7. Where and if applicable, and based on a risk-based approach as defined in the EIBG E&S Policy, the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive 2011/92/EU as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU, Birds Directive 2009/147/EC and Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC will be respected. The Promoter will in such case, prior to utilising any EIB funds, be responsible for transmitting to the Bank the EIA for publication on its website. For any part of the project that may impact on a nature conservation site, the Promoter will be required to provide to the Bank information on the mitigation measures required to comply with the Habitats and Birds Directives (92/43/EEC and 2009/147/EC respectively).
The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that contracts for implementation of the project have been and will be tendered in accordance with the applicable EU procurement legislation, Directive 2014/25/EU as well as Directive 92/13/EEC as interpreted by the Court of Justice of the EU, with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where required. Information on awarded main suppliers/contractors for the implementation of the envisaged operation is not available.
