Nationality
We can only accept your application if you are a national of one of the Member States of the European Union, or of a candidate country which has already started accession negotiations (Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Albania and North Macedonia).
We do not operate a quota system, but strive for a balanced representation of the nationalities of EU Member States among our colleagues, according to Article 11.7 of our Statute.
The only exceptions to this nationality principle are our local agent roles, which are positions available in our external offices.
We may also offer each year a small number of internships and secondment opportunities linked to our Euro-Mediterranean, Eastern Neighbourhood, and Sub-Saharan Africa, Caribbean and Pacific programmes. Advertisements for these opportunities will refer clearly to these programmes, which are open only to nationals of the specific countries covered by each programme.
Languages
English and French are our two official working languages and it is great if applicants are comfortable with both.
If you are fluent in one of these languages (most often English), but not at our required* level in the other, you may still be hired, but must be committed to improving your level in the second language once here. We will provide support for you to achieve it.
For some roles, fluency in an additional language may also be required. Please check vacancy postings for the specific language requirements related to the role.
* Our required language level is not full business fluency and is broadly comparable to level B1/2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
