    2017 Bertelsmann Foundation-Financial Times Conference – Wed 19/04

    At the 2017 Bertelsmann conference, Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle participated in a panel on the topic “Rewriting the Code: A New Path toward Inclusive Growth through Digital Innovation” with Denis McDonough, Chief of Staff to President Obama and Arvind Gupta, Head of National Technology to Indian PM Narendra Modi.

    Established by the European Investment Bank and the International Finance Corporation, the GEMs database collects risk data that can be used by its members (over 15 global multilateral development banks and financial institutions) when making their lending decisions in developing and emerging markets. A proposal to open the database to the private sector was discussed during the GEMs meeting.

    EIB President Hoyer and Robert Zoellick, former president of the World Bank, took part in a panel focusing on development issues and the role of the EIB as a global financier - a panel chaired by Fred Kempe, President of the Atlantic Council.

    The debate, hosted by the Brookings Institution on the side-lines of the IMF/World Bank Spring meetings, took place in Washington D.C. The purpose was to present to the US audience the value of the Investment Plan for Europe as a model for infrastructure investment. The historic importance of the transatlantic partnership was also brought forward during the debate.
