The EIB has arranged specific credit lines with local partner banks targeted at medium-sized corporates with up to 3000 employees, and for projects costing up to EUR 50 million. The Bank's "mid-cap" financing can support up to 50% of total project cost. Such investment must meet one of the EIB's lending objectives, in particular in European cohesion and convergence areas, innovation (i2i) and environmental protection.

The EIB supports smaller-scale infrastructure projects carried out indirectly by local authorities and municipalities through credit lines with local financial intermediaries. In collaboration with the European Commission, the EIB has established the Municipal Finance Facility (MFF - EUR 30 million in EU grants and EUR 240 million in EIB loans) and the Municipal Infrastructure Facility (MIF - EUR 50 million in EU grants and EUR 250 million in EIB loans). Both facilities are for the new Member States and accession countries.
