Diversification and Security of Internal Supply
The EIB supports projects contributing to energy diversification and security at EU level, notably:
- Trans-European Energy Network projects which remain a particular priority for the EU and the bank
- Electricity grids and connections
- Gas pipelines, gas storage and LNG projects
- Power stations contributing to diversification at European level
Financing large-scale energy projects (such as large power stations, national and international energy grids, major energy importing facilities or the development of large domestic energy resources) is a core part of EIB lending to the energy sector. These projects help not only to enhance security of energy supply, including diversification of imports, and contribute to the creation of the internal energy market but also allow for a shift towards a more sustainable use of conventional energy sources.
