The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM)

In 2005, the European Council granted FYROM the status of a candidate country, although accession negotiations have not started. Starting in 1977 with a EUR 3m loan to the energy sector, the Bank has provided a total of over EUR 675 million in financing since 1998.

Efforts have been made by the EIB to support the local economy through a network of local banks to back SMEs (80% of EIB’s total lending in the country), skills and innovation, energy and environmental protection in the country.
