The Project consists of rehabilitation investments in the historic centre, accessibility enhancement of uptown suburbs and flood risks prevention in Bilbao, Spain.
The project comprises three distinctive parts: the enhancement of the historic city centre by implementing small urban infrastructure works, the improvement of the uptown suburbs accessibility and the opening of Deusto canal to mitigate the consequences of periodic river flooding. The opening of the canal will involve the construction of a bridge to guarantee the link of Zorrozaurre, the last brownfield opportunity area to be developed in the city, to the Deusto suburb.

Environmental aspectsThe requirement for an EIA for schemes falling under Appendix II of the Directive will be assessed by the Competent Authority. All relevant EU directives will apply, including specifically Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and Birds Directive 79/409/EEC.
The Bank will require the Promoter to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been/shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation (Directive 2004/18/EEC or 2004/17/EEC and Directive 2007/66/EC), with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where appropriate.
