Construction and operation of an underground gas storage facility in a salt formation in South Central Turkey.
The financing of this project would contribute to the EIBs energy lending priority on diversification and security of supply. By improving operation of the national natural gas system, the project will facilitate further consolidation of Turkey in its role of gas transit country and further development of the regional gas market.

Environmental aspectsAn Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was conducted for the project and approved by the Turkish competent authority in 2003. An addendum was issued and disclosed to the public in 2005. The EIA identified a number of potential impacts associated with the construction and operation phases of the project. These impacts can be managed through internationally accepted standards of good engineering practices and mitigated through appropriate environmental and social measures.
The promoter awarded in 2011 the implementation of the project to a general contractor after international competitive bidding. The contract includes the supply and installation of surface and sub-surface facilities, water supply and brine discharge pipelines, and cavern leaching.
