The project is a multi annual investment programme aimed at modernising and reinforcing the electricity distribution networks serving the Banat and Dobrogea regions located respectively in south-west and south-east Romania.
Objectives
The project will enable the promoter to reduce technical and commercial losses, to improve the quality and the reliability of electricity supply, and to cater for a moderate demand growth. It is located in convergence regions within a cohesion country.
Comments
The proposed EIB financing of up to EUR 105 million is to fund the proposed investment programme over the planned period.
The characteristics and voltage range of the project schemes are such that they are not listed either under Annex I or Annex II of the EIA Directive. Overall the environmental impacts of the project are expected to be modest and, in most cases, limited to disturbance during construction.
Procurement
The Bank will require the Promoter to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been/shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation (Dir. 2004/17/EEC and Dir. 2007/66/EC), with parallel publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where appropriate.
